Sutton United assistant manager Alan Payne has led the tributes to boss Paul Doswell after his side's run to the FA Cup second round.

United take on League One Notts County on Sunday in the biggest match of the club's recent history.

Doswell, prior to this season, has led United to two FA Cup first round appearances, the Ryman Premier League title and two Ryman Premier League play-off appearances since taking over at Gander Green Lane in 2008.

Sutton currently ride high in the Blue Square South after a blistering ten-match unbeaten run, and Payne believes the success is down to one man.

"What Paul has achieved is remarkable," he said.

"From the minute he took over he has managed to regroup the entire club and he likes to keep everyone well involved.

"He cares so much about the small details and he deserves all the plaudits that come his way.

"It is a credit to him that he is able to go away on holiday at a time like this and trust everything will be done as it should be. That art of delegation is a skill in itself.

"In many ways he has done himself a favour by being away because then he isn't dragged from pillar to post.

"We've been in touch and all we have had to concentrate on is the football."

Sutton have not won a game since reaching the second round of the competition with a 1-0 win over Kettering Town last month.

But Payne, who watched County take on Huddersfield Town a fortnight ago in preparation for the big day, insisted that doesn't reflect the form of his side.

"The results have dipped, but I wouldn't say our form has gone the same way," he added.

"We are still playing very well we just haven't had the luck of things.

"We are a very different team to the last time we played Notts County, but then again so are they so it is going to be tricky."
