So, the list of players let go is now well known, including the late addition of the long-serving Sam Hatton.

Add to that the transfer request from young Brendan Kiernan and the squad looks thinner than the grass used to look at Kingsmeadow after the season.

Already Ricky Wellard and Jamie Stuart have found new homes and you’d expect more news of rehousing once holidays and rest periods have passed.

No word on any further additions to the few left with the Dons but targets are being met and talked to, so it might not be too long before the "In" door swings open again.

It would be wrong to overlook some of Mark Robinson’s young prospects signing pro contracts, so there have been new signings after all.

Frankie Merrifield and Jim Fenlon have signed on to make the step up so we’ll hope that they can enrich the squad from within.

Not only have we waved farewell to Commercial Exec Keith McGuinness after a fruitful time with us but we also saw the exit of reserve boss and Dons legend, Marcus Gayle.

Marcus has decided to take on first-team management with Staines Town, or is that now Staines-upon-Thames Town? Wheels coming full circle once more, as Marcus’ last playing appearance was for the Dons at Staines in a Ryman Premier play-off final. Only 4 years have passed since then, and it’s a long, long road in football terms.

You would expect Marcus’experience and mentality to deliver success there and no doubt a few eyes will take a look at their results now.

It’s only fair to thank all those let go for their parts in another chapter of the barely believable story of football clubs called Wimbledon.

Pitch that to Hollywood and you’d be shown the door quicker the Michael Bay and some robots in disguise.

Nearly as impossible as a dancing dog being Britain’s most talented new entertainer. Maybe crazy is the norm after all? Imagine, three years after Mark de Bolla sealed a fraught afternoon at Staines, nerves were shredded once again until Danny Kedwell trickled home a spot kick in Manchester to sooth them.

And they’ve done it (again), we’re (still) in League Two.

This League Two season has seen more nerve shredding and it’s time to prepare for another set of fixtures to renew acquaintances with Fleetwood and York as they replace Hereford and Macclesfield through the trap door. Slightly shorter journeys are on the cards to Wycombe and Exeter, balanced by lengthier jaunts to Rochdale and Chesterfield.

There’s still the play-offs to see out, so Crewe or Cheltenham will be avoided next season.

Kingsmeadow will look different too, with a seated Kingston Road end, and questions being asked about the future of the East terrace.

Season that with a sprinkling of teases about developments at the dog track in Plough Lane or at the other end of Haydon’s Road and you know it’s going to be another serving of spicy Womble gumbo that would grace Madame Cholet’s kitchen. It might not be to everyone’s taste but it really is football soul food.
