Quins full-back Ross Chisholm is after Mike Brown’s starting shirt and did himself no harm at the Stoop on Friday, writes Jack Zorab.
 

The 21-year-old scored the very first try of the tournament as he left London Irish flyer Topsy Ojo for dead to help Quins past the Exiles in the opening game.
 

A 33-0 defeat to Saracens in their following match led to Quins missing out on the finals at the Rec in Bath on August 3, despite seeing off Wasps in a dead rubber.
 

But Chisholm, right, took confidence from his performances in a first outing of the season.
 

He said: “It was nice to get the first try of the tournament. I’d been working all week on trailing runners and if you follow those runners you might score tries.
 

“It’s a little bit of a shock – more to the lungs than anything – when you first start playing sevens again but it feels good to shake it all off.
 

“Every time you go out on the field you’re trying to prove yourself and trying to show Conor O’Shea and the coaches what you can do.
 

“They’ve said to me if I play well in things like this when you represent Quins then it can only help my cause to get into the first team.”
 

Chisholm and co made the perfect start as they overcame a strong London Irish side to win the opening match 21-14, the full-back showing his pace to go over for the opener.
 

Quins were put to the sword in their second game by Sarries, which proved costly.
