In the final match of the season, Herne Hill Harrier’s men finished fourth out of eight, to take fifth place overall and secure their place in the BAL National One.
Harriers enjoyed four individual victories on the track with Blade Ashby (400m hurdles, 52.14 seconds) and Lewis Lloyd (800m, 1:51.06) finishing first in the A string competition.
There were B string wins for Feysel Nadew (800m, 1:53.99) and Ashby again (110m hurdles, 14.44secs).
The best placed field eventers were Charlie Maw (equal second in the A pole vault), a returning Michael Wheeler and Thomas Ashby (third A and second B string shot), Alex Hill-King (second B discus) and Tayo Andrews (equal third high jump).
Elsewhere, the ladies’ attempt to win promotion to Division Two of the UK women’s league at Wigan, ended in disappointment.
With second place on the day, Harriers still enjoyed success on the track with Shanice Harrison winning both A string sprints in 12.46secs and 24.77secs and Stacey Ward recording a 1,500m and 3,000m win double.
Other track wins came from Hannah Edwards (800m and the 4x400m relay) and Stephanie Mitchell (B string 400m, 800m and 1,500m), while Michella Obijaiku excelled in the field, winning the shot putt with 11.93m.
Harriers picked up valuable points from second places with the B string shot (Kathleen Moeller 6.88m) and B string high jump (Michella Obijiaku 1.45m) where every point proved vital.
However, in the end Harriers fell eight points short of the Herts Phoenix team, who held on to the overall second promotion spot by the skin of their teeth.
