Tooting & Mitcham chairman Bill Hill says the club is just being "cautious" in giving interim manager Jamie Martin until Christmas to prove he is the right man for the top job.
Martin has turned around the Terrors' fortunes since taking over from the sacked Roberto Forzoni at the beginning of October.
Initially he was given six games to stake his claim, and after opening with three defeats, the Terrors are now three unbeaten - including two away wins at Ramsgate and Walton & Hersham.
The win at Ramsgate won the club the Ryman South performance of the month.
Martin has brought in former Premier League striker Jamie Lawrence, as well as former Kingstonian skipper Adam Thompson.
Hill said: "Jamie is doing well, so we have given him until Christmas. We are just being cautious, we had a bad season last year, and a bad start this year, so we're just taking our time - but I am sure Jamie will be fine.
"He has brought in some very good players. Adam [Thompson] is a major coup. He has been man of the match for the past two games."
