Tooting & Mitcham midfielder Lee Hall says individual mistakes are behind the team’s dire December.
The Terrors picked up just one point from five Ryman League Division One South games in December, and they were also dumped out of the Surrey County Cup by Lingfield.
The desperate month ended with a 3-1 home defeat to Horsham on Saturday.
The Terrors picked up just one point from five Ryman League Division One South games in December.
The rot was stopped on New Year’s Day with a 2-2 draw at leaders Dulwich Hamlet, with goals from new boys Nathan Koo-Boothe and Dominic Vose.
Despite his concerns, Hall can see light at the end of the tunnel with the arrival of Koo-Boothe in defence, and former West Ham United midfielder Vose.
Going in the other direction are George Landais and and Marvin Farrell, both of whom have been released.
Hall said: “We’re playing really well at the moment, in fact we’re playing some of the best football we’ve played in a long time.
“But the problem is we’re making too many individual mistakes. We’re giving away soft penalties and silly free-kicks around the area. It’s from those situations that teams are scoring against us.
“We’re not being broken down by teams, but when you’re giving away silly mistakes, you don’t need to be broken down.”
He added: “We’re also not putting away the chances we’re creating, and we’re creating plenty of chances.
“I’m not having a pop at the guys up front, but if we put those chances away and we’re ahead in games, then the confidence returns, we’re all buzzing and those individual mistakes start to disappear.
“I know the gaffer is talking about increasing finishing practice in training.”
Hall points to the departure of Adam Thompson as coinciding with the team’s slump in form. Thompson’s return later this month is greatly anticipated.
“Adam was immense for us, he really has the experience we needed in defence. He is missed.
“But having said that, Nathan was great against Horsham. Considering it was his first game, he did well.
“And Dominic is a real play-maker in the centre of the park. I think they will both be great for the club – we just need to get back on a roll, to get buzzing again.”
Tooting & Mitcham travel to Walton Casuals tomorrow.
