Met Police boss Jim Cooper admitted blowing his top at half-time after his promotion-chasing team found themselves 1-0 down at home to Wingate & Finchley.

However, after two late goals turned the scoreline on its head, the Imber Court side took all the points and are sitting just outside the Ryman Premier Division play-offs.

And Cooper is hoping his team stick to form when they host second-placed Wealdstone on Saturday.

“I was very disappointed in the lads’ first half performance against Wingate and I told them in no uncertain terms that they needed to buck their ideas up,” Cooper said.

“The board room is just above the dressing room and I fear they probably heard me up there too.

“But I have to give credit to the team, they were by far the better side in the second half and we deserved the win.”

He added: “We always seem to start slowly against teams who are below us in the table, and play well against teams who are above us. With that in mind I’m expecting us to come out of the blocks quickly against Wealdstone.

“I keep telling the lads if we beat Wealdstone, we’re only a few points behind them with a game in hand.”

Duran Reynolds, on a month’s loan from Dagenham & Redbridge, and Ty Smith got the goals to over-turned Wingate’s opener.

Cooper said: “Duran’s goal was a great 25-yarder and it’s not often you come across a goal-scoring full-back, so we’ll have to work hard to replace him when he leaves.”
