Tooting & Mitcham go to Maidstone United this Saturday confident of turning over the Ryman Division One South leaders.

The Terrors are unbeaten in three games under caretaker manager Phil Simpson following Saturday’s 0-0 draw against Herne Bay at Imperial Fields.

But they face their toughest test yet under his stewardship this weekend when they go to The Stones, who have only lost twice on their 3G artificial pitch all season.

“Maidstone are a good team, hence the reason they are at the top,” said Simpson.

“But at the beginning of the game its always 0-0 and there are 22 people on the pitch battling to see who can win.

“It is a 3G artificial pitch so it should be perfect playing conditions and a flat surface suits our passing game.

“If this team plays well we can beat anybody, but we didn’t beat Herne Bay because we didn’t play well.

“Once the game started the players just seemed pretty flat and rather than playing against Herne Bay, it was like we were playing with them.

“But I spoke to all the players on Sunday and everyone seemed switched on and knows what they have to do this weekend – the first thing is not to play like they did on Saturday.”
