Craig Tanner began assembling his Tooting & Mitcham team as trialists were put through their paces at the club on Saturday.
Former Terrors captain Tanner was appointed manager three weeks ago and has faced a hectic task of organising his squad, backroom staff and pre-season friendlies before the coming Ryman Division One South campaign.
He has though been largely successful, making Adam Moriarty assistant manager and Frank Wilson reserve team manager, and confirming five friendlies, including games against a Crawley Town XI and a Norwich City U21 team, with the Canaries set to have a development centre at the KNK Stadium.
Now he has turned his attentions to the playing side.
"It's been very busy but quite exciting as well," he said.
"We had about 60 turn up on Saturday and we have invited 20 back for an extended pre-season.
"A lot have played at a higher level or in reserve team football but over a day it is very difficult to assess pedigree.
"Hopefully, over the next few weeks we will be able to get a better look at them."
Moriarty is brother to AFC Wimbledon's first-team fitness coach Jason Moriarty and a long-time associate of Tanner.
"We have been best mates for the past six or seven years and we share the same philosophy," he added.
"I went to school with him, we trained at Fulham together and we have always trained together and done pre pre-season together."
