Carshalton Athletic boss Tommy Williams has bolstered his squad with two new signings ahead of their assault on the Ryman Premier League.

Former Hayes & Yeading striker Julian Owusu and defender Bruce Hogg, who arrives from Chipstead, made their home debuts in last night's [Tuesday] pre-season friendly against Skrill South outfit Dover Athletic.

“Julian has grabbed goals for us in pre-season already and he will be a handful for opponents, I’m pleased to have him on board,” said Williams.

“Bruce has been immense since he has arrived too and I’m happy with the way my squad is shaping up.”

The pair played in the 2-1 defeat against Dover, with Kingsley Aikkionbare grabbing the Robins’ consolation, but both hit goals in the 4-1 win against Whyteleafe last weekend.

Owusu said: “I’m optimistic about my future and the season ahead.

“I could have stayed at Conference level but I wasn’t getting many games and Tommy sold me the club, there is a good bunch of players and staff here.”

The striker believes the game against Dover offered the fledging Robins a “reality check” as the countdown to the new season continues.

“We needed to play a team from a higher division to gauge how far we’ve come,” Owusu added.

“It was a good test for us and we have one more game to get that extra bit of sharpness ready for the start of the league.”

Carshalton will be aiming for a good season in the Premier again after reinstatement following relegation was confirmed on 30 July.

Essex side Thurrock FC were found guilty for a third and final time by an independent UK arbitration panel for fielding an ineligible player last season.

The decision means a three-point deduction stands, dropping Thurrock into the Ryman Division One North and keeps the Robins in the Premier.

Williams said: “We are pleased with this news as it means we can now concentrate on preparing for the new season in a confirmed division.

Carshalton’s last pre-season friendly is at home against Chesham United on August 3, kick-off 3pm.
