Carshalton Athletic midfielder Luke Pigden said he and his team-mates endured a frustrating bank holiday weekend.

The Robins succumbed to two defeats, 3-1 away at Dulwich Hamlet and 2-1 at home to East Thurrock, which leaves them just inside the relegation zone.

However, Pigden is confident that Carshalton are not far away from discovering that winning feeling.

"We knew going to Dulwich would be hard and we perhaps gave them a little too much respect in the first-half," said Pigden.

"But we were only one down at half-time and I felt we were competitive for the majority of the game. But their third goal, as we were looking to equalise, killed the game off."

The midfielder wants Carshalton to start games as the dominant team, which they did against East Thurrock on Monday.

It was a plan that worked with the Robins holding a 1-0 lead at the break - however two second half goals, including one involving a poor goal kick by Michael McEntegart, gifted the visitors all the three points.

Pigden said: “The East Thurrock boys were saying they didn’t know how they’d won it.

"We need to be a little shrewder in possession when teams start putting us under pressure because, as that first-half proved, we can really hurt teams when we pass and move as a unit.”

Tommy Bradford grabbed both Carshalton’s goals across the weekend, to make it three in three for the diminutive playmaker, and Pigden feels it is just the results missing from some good recent performances by the men in red.

"If we continue playing like we have recently then I’m confident we aren't far away from getting positives results, we just need that little something extra to click into place," he said.
