A late strike by substitute Kingsley Aikhionbare earned Carshalton Athletic a second Ryman Division One South win on the spin as they beat Hastings United 2-1 on Saturday.
The cool first-time finish by the young striker on 89 minutes, added to Brendan Murphy-McVey’s goal in the first half, also means the Robins have now taken 11 points from a possible 15 on the road this season.
It is also the first time Stuart Massey's men have recorded back to back victories this season, and it came by virtue not just of Aikhionbare's strike, but also a fine display from debutant keeper Matt Willard.
“The pressure was on after we conceded their equaliser so I’m happy to have grabbed the winner,” said Aikhionbare.
“Matt did great to keep out their most dangerous chances but we would’ve been disappointed to have left Hastings with even a draw because we felt we controlled most of the match.”
It was fellow sub Nassim Dukali who created the chance for Aikhionbare, and the young forward claimed practice makes perfect.
“I’d been working on that kind of finish during the week," he added.
"I've known Nas for a long time so, despite all my shouting for a pass, I could tell he was going to slide it across and not go for goal himself."
Carshalton are on their travels again as they visit Whitstable Town tomorrow night [Tuesday] and Aikhionbare wants to see this mini-revival continue after the club were knocked out for the FA Cup last week.
"We've responded well to our disappointing cup exit by beating Redhill and now Hastings, so hopefully we can get a little run of nice results together," he said.
"It got quite tense out there on Saturday at times but we are a young squad and are learning all the time."
