Hampton & Richmond Borough signed former Brentford keeper Richard Lee last week, but he did not face Maidstone United when maybe he should.
The 33-year-old agreed terms on Friday, but watched as Brentford loan keeper Mark Smith conceded an injury time winner as Hampton crashed 1-0 to United to exit the FA Trophy 24 hours later.
Boss Alan Dowson’s men head to Enfield Town tomorrow and the manager believes his team’s reaction may define their Ryman Premier League campaign.
“Of course Saturday ended in heartbreak. But what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger,” he said.
“It’s a blow losing so very, very late. We did brilliantly.
“Stick with us as I believe this group know how to react to a set-back.
“It was galling, but it’s how you recover from that blow that shapes your season.
“I think we’re capable of making that defeat bringing us closer together.”
