Carshalton Athletic boss Chris McGinn wants his squad to finish their season on a high after a 1-1 draw at Herne Bay last Saturday.
It seemed their Kent hosts would win a rather tepid end-of-season affair via a 77th minute penalty, but Tommy Bradford poached an added time equaliser to ensure the Robins left with a share of the spoils.
McGinn is preparing his squad for a visit by relegated Peacehaven & Telscombe this Saturday and a win, with other results going their way, will see the Robins finish in the top 10 in Ryman Division One South.
“We were not ourselves on Saturday – we lost players to sickness on the day and our preparation suffered - but I take responsibility for the performance,” said McGinn.
“We didn’t really come alive until after we conceded, but I will make sure we will be motivated for our last game for sure.”
Carshalton failed to convert two good chances in the first half and were indebted to goalkeeper Luke Colquhoun for three good saves before Danny Walder eventually put Herne Bay in front from the spot.
But Bradford’s 24th goal of the season, after bundling in from close range during a goalmouth scramble, earned his side a point.
“We really want to finish the season on a high this week,” added McGinn.
“I am sure the players will respond to give our fans a win and I’ll be working hard to make sure that happens.”
Carshalton Athletic welcome Peacehaven & Telscombe to Colston Avenue on Saturday, kick-off 3pm.
