Tooting & Mitcham United boss Frank Wilson is as keen to win tonight’s London Senior Cup final for himself as well as the club and fans.
Wilson, who has already agreed terms for next season, takes his Terrors side to Imber Court to face Hendon (kick off 7.30pm) in a repeat of last year’s final.
Hendon ran out 3-2 winners on that day, and Wilson reckons his charges are in a good position for revenge.
He said: “We’re in high spirits – in terms of performances we had a good end to the season, we had a charity match over the weekend where the supporters take on the players and we’ve agreed the job for next season - so it’s a feel-good time for the club.
“All of that has come together at a good time and we’ve got the cup final. Everyone is feeling good about themselves.”
Wilson, who has a fully fit squad to select from, added: “It’s a big occasion and a reward for the players, because they have worked very hard and it has not been easy at times this year.
“They have stayed focussed and got themselves to a cup final and beaten teams like Dulwich and Harrow along the way, it’s good for them.
“It’s for the fans as well, we’re lucky to have really good support at Tooting – we’re pleased for them.
“The league showing was not that great, so this is something for them to look forward to.”
On a personal level, Wilson is hoping a piece of silverware will put a shine on a league performance that has left a slightly bitter taste in the mouth.
The Terrors finished 17th in the Ryman Division One South table in Wilson’s first season in charge.
He said: “Winning the final would mean everything to me.
“I would have liked to have done better with the squad in the league, but identifying where things went wrong from October and correcting it was hugely important.
“Being in a cup final is fantastic because it gives a sense of elation around the club – they have been talking about it for a long time.”
He added: “It’s as important to me as it is to the club, so I’d love to get a trophy under my belt.”
