If there was one signing that set Hampton & Richmond Borough apart from the Ryman Premier League also-rans this season it was Frenchman Moussa Diarra - so says boss Alan Dowson.
The centre back has been nominated for a National Game Award for his part in the Beavers’ title triumph that saw him score 14 league goals in 46 appearances.
Dowson begged, stole and borrowed to stump up the cash to make his mover from Hemel Hempstead Town permanent in July, having spent time on loan at the Beveree the previous season.
“If you look at the signings I would say the key one - off the top of my head - is probably Moussa,” he said last month.
“He has been so important to us in both boxes. He is always a threat at set pieces and made us very solid at the back.”
Diarra, 25, is up for the step three and four player of the year the NGA awards ceremony held at Stamford Bridge on May 18.
“What a season it has been and Moussa has played a big part in that,” added chairman Steve McPherson.
“His goals have caught the eye and it’s great for the club he is up for an NGA. A lot of the players could have been selected as so many have had brilliant seasons. It would be fantastic if he won.”
