Kingstonian assistant boss Graham Harper reckons the arrival of AFC Wimbledon youngster Danny Gallagher is just what the club needs ahead of the Ryman Premier Division kick-off next week.
Gallagher has signed a one month loan deal with the Kingsmeadow non-Leaguers and played a full part in Tuesday's Ryman League Charity Shield defeat to Hampton & Richmond Borough.
Physical presence: AFC Wimbledon's Danny Gallagher put himself about for Kingstonian in Tuesday's Ryman League Charity Shield defeat at Hampton
The 19-year-old midfielder made his first team debut for the Dons against Plymouth Argyle in April, having joined the club as a 10-year-old.
And Harper has been impressed with what he has seen thus far.
"We are really pleased to get Danny into the squad for a month," he said.
"He is a tough tackling, physical midfielder and exactly the sort of player we feel we need at the moment.
"He did well on Tuesday and we will be getting him involved a lot more."
Winger Charlie Knight appears to have earned a permanent return to Ks having recaptured some of the form that made him a key part of Alan Dowson's squad that finished second in the table in 2014.
Staying put?: Ks winger Charlie Knight is after a permanent return to Kingsmeadow
Knight has been plagued by injury problems since then, but Harper believes he has done enough to feature this term.
"Charlie hasn't played an awful lot of football in the past two years, so has been lacking in terms of fitness," he added.
"But we have got some minutes in him and we would like to keep him if he can sort a few things.
"It is not a done deal by any means and he is not the finished article, but we know he has the quality and he has shown that."
Good stuff: Bruce Hogg has been in good form for Ks during pre-season
Moving on will defender Adam Thompson, who, despite featuring heavily for Ks in pre-season, has not done enough to get ahead of Alan Inns, Sam Page, Bruce Hogg and Max Hustwick in the central defensive pecking order.
"He has done nothing wrong, but there is a lot of competition in his position," said Harper.
"Tommy (Williams) rates him and we know what a good player he is, but realistically he is not going to get the minutes he wants.
On his way: Adam Thompson is surplus to requirements at Kingstonian depsite playing a full part in pre-season preparations
"It is something we might have another look at later in the season if we need to, but for now I think he'll be looking elsewhere."
