Two goals in two games from defender Tom Jelley has Hampton & Richmond Borough boss Alan Dowson believing anything is possible in the National League South this term.

The former Tooting & Mitcham United full back struck a 90th minute penalty in Saturday’s 1-0 opening day win at Bishop’s Stortford before netting his team’s first half equaliser from the spot in Tuesday’s 3-1 home win over Eastbourne Borough.

It has given Hampton, who host East Thurrock United on Saturday, the perfect start to life after claiming the Ryman Premier Division title, but the manager is not getting carried away.

“Tom had a shocking game on Saturday, but he still wanted to take the penalty in the 90th minute and that shows a lot of bottle,” said Dowson.

“If you have got that sort of bottle in your team then you’ve got half a chance.”

He added: “We didn’t play well on Saturday and did OK on Tuesday, so we’ll settle for two wins not playing our best.

“I’m not interested in the league table. I’ll be happy with 12 more wins and finishing fourth from bottom.”
