Carshalton Athletic begun the new Ryman Division South campaign with a comfortable 3-1 victory away at promoted Horsham on Saturday.
The Robins were 2-0 up at the break thanks to goals from Mickel Miller and Ricky Korboa, while the latter added a third in the 70th minute by finishing off a barnstorming 65-yard run by player/manager Peter Adeniyi.
After the game, Miller said Adeniyi led by example with that assist.
“The boss wants us to express ourselves and people could hopefully see the trust between us players out there,” he said.
“We played a good game, we moved the ball well and our confidence is high at the moment.”
Miller exuded great poise with the afternoon’s opening goal on 22 minutes – an angled 18-yard strike which seemingly flew through Horsham keeper Anthony Ender before bulging the back of the net.
“We’ve been told not to be frightened to have a shot from anywhere in or around the box, so I just went for it and I’m pleased to have got off the mark for the season,” he added.
Carshalton’s first home game of the season, against fellow opening day winners Molesey, is tonight (Monday August 15) and kicks-off at 7.45pm.
