Sports editor Stuart Amos recently celebrated 10 years at the Surrey Comet and to mark the milestone he selects his best Kingstonian squad from those to have played for the club since February 2006.
Starting XI:
Rob Tolfrey (goalkeeper) – Took over the gloves from Luke Garrard in November 2009 and has barely missed a game since.
Josh Casey (left back) – Spent two seasons at Kingsmeadow and was a classy operator at left back although would argue he is best suited to playing midfield.
Sam Page (centre back) – Won the Ryman Premier League with Sutton United and has been a consistent performer in three seasons with the club.
Kieran Murphy (centre back) – Murphy’s quality now sees him starring at centre back for Hampton & Richmond Borough in the National League South. Started his career at MK Dons and has a Republic of Ireland U21 cap.
Aaron Goode (right back) – Has made more than 200 appearances for the club under two managers - enough said.
Martyn Lee (winger) – Forever remembered for his goal that claimed a 1-0 Surrey Senior Cup final triumph over AFC Wimbledon. Creative force in an otherwise mundane team.
Harold Odametey (midfield) – One season at Ks was enough to secure a move to National League South Hampton & Richmond Borough. Amazing engine.
Tommy Williams (midfield) – Scored nine goals as Ks lifted the Ryman Division One South title, including the winner in the decisive 2-1 win over Dulwich Hamlet. Returned to the club as manager in 2014.
Dean Lodge (winger) – Landed a clean sweep of player of the year awards in 2008 and was a key man in the title winning season. Phrase ‘enigmatic winger’ was made for him.
Bobby Traynor (striker) – His goals secured the Ryman Division One South title and also helped Ks reach the Ryman Premier League play-off final in 2010. Play-off semi-final goal against Sutton United still the best I have seen in person at non-League level. Also landed two Ryman Premier League golden boots.
Andre McCollin (striker) – Scored 30 goals in a 56-goal partnership with Ryan Moss as Ks finished second in the Ryman Premier League in 2014.
Substitutes:
Ryan Moss (striker) – Formed lethal partnership with McCollin, but cannot edge ahead of Traynor for sheer weight of goals.
Carl Wilson Denis (striker) – Perfect foil for Bobby Traynor in the Division One South winning team.
Adam Thompson (defender) – Versatility is the key for this pick as he covered defence and midfield with equal aplomb.
Daniel Sweeney (midfielder) – Box-to-box midfield man with an eye for goal. Had an on-off relationship with the club, but Ks were stronger with him.
Matt Pattison (midfield) - Silky midfielder with a touch of class. Reading of the game made up for a lack of pace.
