Carshalton Athletic lost their impressive unbeaten run on Saturday but player/manager Peter Adeniyi simply rued his side’s wastefulness in front of goal, writes James Barrett-Sterling.
The Robins had gone 10 games unbeaten, including an impressive 3-2 win over league leaders Lewes last week, before Herne Bay arrived at Colston Avenue on Saturday.
And, after missing several clear-cut chances in the first hour of the match, two second-half goals gave the visitors a first win in six.
“We created enough chances to win three or four games but we could’ve been out there all night and probably not scored,” said Adeniyi after the game.
“It was just one of those days – if we weren’t making chances then I’d be concerned. No-one could’ve complained if we’d gone in three-up at half-time but sometimes that’s football.”
Carshalton carved out several good opportunities during the 90 minutes but, notably, Raheem Sterling-Parker, Jordan Cheadle, Bobby Price and Ricky Korboa all missed the target or were thwarted by fine saves by keeper Benjamin Hunter.
“It’s just a case of dusting ourselves off and going again,” added Adeniyi.
“The boys have been fantastic over the past month or so and I believe we can get back to winning ways and build another unbeaten run again.”
Next up for Carshalton is a trip to rock-bottom Shoreham on Saturday but they will travel without second-top goalscorer Sterling-Parker whom ended the game against Herne Bay with a suspected cruciate knee ligament injury.
