It was a great weekend for Carshalton Athletic fans as they saw their club’s charge for promotion take a huge positive step, writes James Barrett-Sterling.
As well as coming away with three points by winning a tight affair with Hythe Town 2-1 on Saturday, Bostik South leaders Lewes and second-placed Cray Wanderers both dropped two points.
This means Carshalton, currently sitting third and now only three points off top spot, go into consecutive games against the top two full of confidence.
“Hythe was not an easy game, we had to be willing to fight,” said Robins striker Omar Koroma whom grabbed the eventual winner via the penalty spot on 72 minutes.
“I thought we were really solid, we kept plugging away and the fans played their part by giving us a lift in the second-half.
“But, as we saw, results also went our way on Saturday and that could happen to any team in this league. You have to treat every game like a final.”
Raheem Sterling-Parker’s 14th of the season gave Carshalton a 32nd minute lead last weekend, but that joy was short-lived lead as Jerson Dos Santos levelled just four minutes later.
The game seemed destined to end a draw until Hythe keeper Will Godmon up-ended Tommy Bradford just inside the box and Koroma, whom scored all the goals in Carshalton’s 4-0 victory in the reverse fixture back in November, stepped up to break Town hearts yet again.
The striker, on loan from Bostik Premier outfit Dulwich Hamlet, now has eight goals in as many appearances and he is thoroughly enjoying his time at Colston Avenue.
“From the first day I came in, the lads have made it easy for me. People can see the football we play is very good and I wouldn’t be able to score my goals if it weren’t for their support,” Koroma added.
Carshalton Athletic travel to league leaders Lewes on Saturday 10th February (kick-off 3pm).
