Carshalton Athletic are on the verge of promotion this weekend and manager Peter Adeniyi wants a bumper crowd for the visit of Whyteleafe on Saturday, writes James Barrett-Sterling.
The Robins won two difficult away fixtures this past week; a 1-0 victory over play-off hunting Walton Casuals before a Tuesday night trip to Herne Bay ended in a dramatic 2-1 win.
The club have now only lost one game since the beginning of November and just three more points will not only secure promotion to the Bostik Premier, but will keep Carshalton on track for the league title.
“By winning those two games, Saturday now takes on real significance and it’ll be a great time for the local people of Carshalton, or any fan of football, to come out and support us,” said Adeniyi.
“I urge all supporters to bring family and friends along, or if you haven’t been for a long time then this should be as good a reason as any to come see us.
“The boys have been superb all season and the club is heading in the right direction both on and off the pitch. It would be great to see over 500 inside Colston Avenue for the Whyteleafe game.”
A dogged defensive display meant Ola Sogbanmu’s second minute goal was enough to see off Walton Casuals last Saturday.
And Herne Bay – the only club to beat Carshalton Athletic in the league over the past six months – threatened to complete a double on Tuesday night as Jake Embrey’s 70th minute penalty levelled Raheem Sterling-Parker’s first-half opener.
But, in the last minute, a neat move involving four players ended with Christie Pattisson drilling a low shot inside the far post to send the travelling fans into raptures.
“It was a bit of a scrappy game but we dug deep and got the result in the end,” Pattisson said after the game.
“They got themselves level but the boys showed good character and, at the end, Ola found me with a good pass and I was happy to get the goal.
“We haven’t been at our best recently and it won’t be easy against Whyteleafe this weekend but if we stick together I’m sure we can get another result.”
Carshalton Athletic face Whyteleafe at Colston Avenue on Saturday 14th April (kick-off 3pm).
