Molesey 2 Kingstonian 2
Ks' wobble continues with a disappointing draw at near neighbours, rock-bottom Molesey.
There was some consolation in Ks striker Bobby Traynor getting his name back on the scoreboard with a well-taken penalty and a typical poacher's goal.
After being behind but eventually taking the lead just after the hour mark the K's sat back on their one-goal lead.
It looked like that would be enough but the mighty Moles had other ideas. They might be struggling, still looking for the first home league win of the season, but their perseverance and drive was unquestionable and at last knockings they were rewarded a valuable equaliser and their first point of 2008.
Ks should have scored on nine minutes, when Nick Rundell sent in one of his measured high free-kicks from distance which found an unmarked Saheed Sankoh in the Moles goalmouth but he directed his header wide, holding his head in frustration.
Then skipper Simon Sobihy, leading from the front, darted down the left but his eventual cross went behind. The Moles responded on 18 minutes, when striker Eric Kwayke set up the busy Grant Heywood but his 25-yarder flew wide.
On 22 minutes, the Moles took a shock lead, a long high free-kick from the Moles best player Stephen Omonua found Jamie Findlay on the edge of the Ks box.
His through ball set up DOUG FORD and he made no mistake from close range.
Six minutes later, Wes Goggin brought down Omonua on the edge of the Ks box but Heywood curled the free-kick over the bar.
The home side were unlucky not to double their lead when Wayne Finnie was uncharacteristically caught in possession deep in his own box but Luke Garrard did well to block Heywood at close range.
On 31 minutes, Omonua faced a free-kick right one on the edge of the Ks box but he softly struck the ball straight at Garrard.
Ks were then stung into activity. Traynor darted into the Moles box but he was surrounded by a crowd of white shirts.
Then Finnie bombarded the Moles box with three consecutive long throws. The first was cleared by Heywood back on defensive duties.
The second was seen off by Omonua. the third found an unmarked Traynor on the edge of the home box but he blasted over.
With 10 minutes to the break it looked like the Ks had found an equaliser. A Rundell free-kick found Sobihy in the Moles goalmouth and his header seemed goalbound until keeper Jon Ashwood, at full-stretch, impressively pushed the ball out for a corner.
The Rundell corner eventually fell to Gavin Cartwright, who wellied the ball deep in the home box but he unluckily struck his colleague Simon Huckle.
Another Finnie throw saw a dangerous flick from Huckle that was pushed away by Ashwood.
Then Rundell sent in a high free-kick from the right that Ashwood at full-stretch couldn't get.
Traynor did, his header from an acute angle on the far post looked goalbound but the ball dribbled along the goalline and was booted clear.
With Ks commited upfield, Ford broke down the right eventually finding Omonua in the K's box but his first-time volley was straight at Garrard.
With a minute to the break, Ks were back in the game. A sweet chip from Traynor over the Moles backline saw Sankoh take off into the home box where he was felled by centre back Rob Wilkinson.
In the final minute of the half upstepped BOBBY TRAYNOR and he drilled the spotkick low into the left hand corner with Ashwood stranded.
The Ks management team were clearly disturbed by their side's first half performance and started the new half with the fresh legs of Dean Lodge and NJ Lampton.
They were both immediately in the thick of it. In the 48th minute, it was a long through ball from Lampton that saw Ashwood on the edge of his box snatch the ball from a lurking Lodge.
Then Lodge took off on a long trademark run but his final drive was straight at a relieved Ashwood.
A Sobihy cross was half-cleared to Goggin on the edge of the home box but he belted the ball over.
Heywood had a go from distance but went wide and a lob from Andy Davidson didn't bother Garrard. A Jon Boswell free-kick was only half-cleared to Heywood on the edge of the Ks box but he fired over.
On 62 minutes minutes, though, it was Traynor's perserverance that put Ks into the lead.
A Sobihy free-kick from his own the half was seen into the Moles box by Lodge as the ball bobbled hither and thither. BOBBY TRAYNOR, surrounded by defenders, fashioned a goal from nothing, turning and drilling the ball from close range under a full-stretch Ashwood.
Then a Rundell corner found Sobihy in the Moles box but Wilkinson defended well and saw the ball away. A lovely through ball deep into the Moles box from Lampton looked promising but neither Sankoh nor Goggin could take control.
Lampton then fired in a ball right across the face of the Moles goal. As the game fizzled out ther Moles refused to give in and kept up a series of hopeful attacks, one of which was successful.
With two minutes to go, a long, high free-kick from Boswell was flicked onto sub LAURENT HAMICI deep in the Ks box and his subtle, looping header found the far corner with Garrard stranded on his line.
Desperate for a home victory, and spurred on vocally by manager Steve Webb, a long Phil Caughter free-kick found sub Adrian Allen in the Ks box but he was stretching too far to make his header dangerous.
