Hampton & Richmond 2 Basingstoke Town 2

Lawrence Yaku scored a last-minute equaliser to salvage a point from a match featuring three red cards on Saturday.

Former Hampton player Francis Vines brought a Dragons team to the Beveree who had shipped 11 goals in their previous two matches.

But they looked like taking all three points until Ian Hodges headed the ball on for Yaku to calmly place past keeper Chris Tardiff.

Hampton had taken the lead in the 19th minute when Stuart Lake's delightfully weighted pass but Hodges in the clear. His first effort was partially saved, but Hodges hammered home the loose ball.

Three minutes before the break Matt Lovett had to be alert to tip Michael Charles' effort over for a corner and, at the other end, Ryan Lake and Stuart Lake combined to set up Elliott Godfrey, but Hampton's leading scorer tried to place his shot allowing Tardiff to make an easy stop.

Hampton had chances to double their lead after the restart, but Yaku's pull back went behind Hodges and Tardiff saved Yaku's early strike.

Instead Basingstoke drew level in the 58th minute. Although Matt Lovett diverted a shot onto the bar, the lurking James Taylor netted the rebound.

Five minutes later, Hampton were reduced to 10 men in the incident that saw Basingstoke take the lead. Ryan Lake showed his goalkeeping skills to handle on the line and earn an immediate red card and Tyron Smith scored from the spot.

Basingstoke, just forced into a double substitution by two injuries, were then reduced to 10 men when skipper Joe Dolan raised his arm to stop Hodges' goalbound effort.

But Godfrey skied the spot-kick to blow Hampton's chance of drawing level.

Then Basingstoke felt Hodges should have joined the exodus when, bearing down on goal, he slammed into the keeper, but the referee Muge decided it was an honest attempt to go for the ball and didn't wave any cards.

Instead, it was Basingstoke who were reduced to nine men in the 78th minute after Taylor clattered into Hodges just outside the box.

Hampton roared forward looking for an equaliser and one effort was cleared off the line and Wells volley over before Yaku struck.
