Kingstonian 2 Redhill 1
Simon Huckle got the winner as Kingstonian reached the semi-finals of the Surrey Senior Cup on Tuesday night.
Although manager Alan Dowson made a couple of changes against the Sussex County League Division One outfit, Ks still fielded a strong line-up for a competition they are keen to win.
Redhill had taken apart Godalming Town 3-0 in the previous round so it was no surprise that Ks keeper Luke Naughton .
The pacy visitors, led by former Ks striker Tony Reid, made an explosive start.
Once Ks had weathered the storm they exploited some naive defending and man of the match Dean Lodge opened the scoring after 21 minutes.
The Reds equalised late in the first half through Reid's penalty, but Huckle then struck a minute later.
The second half saw Ks attempt to grab a third goal and see off their spirited opposition, but it never happened.
Unfortunately for the Lobsters though they just couldn't step up a gear against a superior home side.
After three minutes, Reds winger Bobby George was blocked by Jamie Beer but it didn't stop him going for a run along the edge of the Ks box and Naughton had to be alert to tip his on-target rising drive over.
Then a long high cross from the right flank saw George again deep in the Ks box but he headed over at full-stretch.
Two minutes later a fierce rising drive from Billy Jackson again saw Naughton at full-stretch push the ball over his bar.
Ks immediately responded with an effective counter-attack from David Suchy who set striker Danny Summers free but he was caught in possession.
A Wayne Finnie throw on 19 minutes from the left was cleared by Reid only to Summers but he sliced his drive.
It didn't matter because Ks took the lead two minutes later.
Suchy pushed the ball out to his skipper Jon Coke in space on the right.
His sweet cross found an unmarked DEAN LODGE loitering in the Reds goalmouth and he comfortably headed past stranded keeper Michael Czanner.
Lobsters winger Teddy Ansell wasted a promising free-kick striking it over the Ks bar.
Summers replied with a 25-yard free-kick that was held comfortably by a full-stretch Czanner.
After 34 minutes, Jason Barton sized up an edge of the Ks box free-kick but he disappointingly struck the defensive wall.
Ten minutes later, Beer was harshly adjudged to have brought down George in the Ks box and Lobsters skipper TONY REID swept the spot-kick home.
John Difford curled a lovely free-kick in from the left that skimmed off the Ks bar on its way out.
In the final minute of the half a Tommy Williams corner from the left saw SIMON HUCKLE rise above the Lobsters defenders and head home into the far corner.
On 58 minutes Summers almost put the game to bed when he turned from 25 yards and unleashed a bullet drive that Czanner did well to push out for a corner.
Seven minutes later, Ks' best move of the half saw Lodge took off down the left after doing well to control a long clearance from Naughton.
His crossfield pass found Summers who chested the ball back to Gavin Cartwright but his powerful drive was pushed away by an alert Czanner.
Lodge took off on another penetrating run down the left flank, cut in, and again Czanner did well to save on the near post.
The visitors replied with a promising long, high free-kick from Barton but Naughton picked it out of the air.
Quick-thinking Lodge pounced on a poor clearance from Czanner but his lob went wide with the Lobsters keeper out of position.
A long run from Bobby Traynor saw him set up Lodge and he wasn't far off from distance.
In additional time a Finnie throw to Traynor down the left saw him find Summers in the Reds goalmouth but he couldn't get any purchase to his shot.
Ks will visit Merstham or Tooting & Mitcham United in the semi-final, with the final itself will be held at Imber Court on May 6.
