The Kingstonian management team of Alan Dowson, Mark Hams and Martin Tyler took the opportunity of a trip to near neighbours Metropolitan Police to examine again their current squad in depth and give more trialists a run out.
Former Sunderland and Bradford City star Jamie Lawrence came on in the second half but unfortunately his cameo was cut short by injury when he fell awkwardly.
Also Reggie Savage returned and his endeavour upfront led to the Ks equalizer.
Ks keeper Josh Willis had his first full game for his new club and was kept busy by a strong Blues side. Vernon Francis saw home a well-worked training ground move just before the break and more goals were expected but Willis made some important saves.
A moment's lack of concentration though in the Blues backline with a couple of minutes remaining led to a Tom Dilloway penalty which he swept home with aplomb.
The K's now host a West Ham United side at Kingsmeadow on Friday July 31st with a 7.45pm k.o.
On just three minutes Gary Drewett's cross from the right found Ryan Gray close in but he headed over. An excellent throw from Willis launched defender Rob Sheridan down the left flank where he let loose a rising drive from distance which was wide of the far post.
Then Lewis Cook's flick set lone K's striker Carl Wilson-Denis free down the middle of the park but keeper Will Packham was out quickly to clear. On 35 minutes a Ryan Lake corner from the right found Wilson-Denis at full-stretch on the far post but his header went wide of the near post.
Then a cross from Craig Brown found Blues striker Craig Wilkins close in but over-stretched he shot wide. On 41 minutes the Blues took the lead from a Brown corner from the left that was flicked on by Gary Drewett dangerously into the K's goalmouth where VERNON FRANCIS forced the ball home.
Wikins again then sent in another corner from the left but this time Francis headed over.
The second half started with a penetrating run from Drewett down the right but his well-struck early drive was blocked by a full-stretch Willis.
Then James Evans did well to contol a high ball in the K's box but he sliced his drive wide. Wilkins did well to head down a high cross from the left which found Drewett but he could only blast over.
The Ks were on the backfoot but a high crossfield ball from Lake set Cook off on a run down the right but his drive was easy for sub Blues keeper Mo Maan.
Danger man Drewett then sent in a penetrating low cross from the right that found sub striker Liam Baitup a couple of yards out but Willis made a fine instinctive save on his line.
Lee Gledhill sent in a short corner finding skipper Steve Sutherland on the far post but he headed over. A rare opportunity fell to Wilson-Denis on the edge of the home box, with seven minutes to go, but he drove low and wide.
With a minute to go Sutherland tripped Savage in the home box and so upstepped TOM DILLOWAY to sweep the spot-kick high to his left with Maan diving the wrong way, a text book penalty from the youngster that even Bobby Traynor would have admired.
