Bognor Regis Town 1 Kingstonian 4
A hat-trick from on-fire striker Bobby Traynor saw Ks safely into the second qualifying round of the FA Cup in a thrilling encounter against fellow Ryman Premier League side Bognor Regis that was much closer than the scoreline suggests.
Both sides enjoyed periods of pressure in an end to end first half but it was Ks who broke the deadlock in the final minute with a fine strike from Traynor.
The Rocks came back strongly, they rattled the Ks woodwork and then equalised with some style just after the hour mark through striker Mickey Demetriou.
But Ks didn't wobble and some Dean Lodge magic soon after saw him upended in the Rocks box, allowing Traynor to coolly restore his side's lead from the penalty spot.
It was the deadly Lodge who added a third, before Traynor, ever the predator, exploited a poor backpass in the final minute of the game to secure his hat-trick.
It is back to their league campaign on Saturday, when Ks make the long journey to the Essex Riviera to take on Canvey Island. On just six minutes, Matt Gray floated a long and high free-kick deep into the Rocks box that was only half-cleared to striker Carl Wilson-Denis but he shot wide.
Four minutes later, Rocks winger Charlie Oatway sized up an edge of the box free-kick but his effort sailed across the face of the Ks goal.
On 14 minutes, an Oatway cross from the left found Lewis Ide on loan from Brighton close in but at full-stretch he could only head over.
The Rocks went even closer five minutes later when a Jack Smith cross from the right was only half-cleared to Ide on the edge of the Ks box but his first-time low drive was smothered by an alert Luke Garrard.
On 24 minutes, Bognor centre-back Tim Bond was yellow-carded for upending Lodge down the left flank.
Gray took off along the edge of the Rocks box but his shot was blocked.
Wilson-Denis fired in the follow-up that went wide with keeper Anthony Ender scrambling across his goal.
On 33 minutes Ks went close to scoring when a Lodge run down the right saw him float the ball into the Rocks goalmouth, where an on-target Traynor header was superbly tipped away by a full-stretch Ender.
With four minutes to the break, another run from Lodge, having a powerful game, down the left saw him send in a cross that went begging.
Ks were threatening and, at last, a Lee Hall cross from the left saw Lodge on the edge of the Rocks box set up BOBBY TRAYNOR, who belted the ball past a full-stretch Ender. It was Traynor again, at the beginning of the second half, who dispossessed Smith out on the left, finding Des Boateng, who drilled a shot straight at Ender.
Pacy winger Sam Tucknott took off down the right and found striker Mickey Demetriou on the near post, where his header unluckily bounced off the bar.
Wilson-Denis responded with good possession work way out on the right, he found Lodge in the Rocks box but he fired first-time straight at Ender.
On 61 minutes the Rocks were back in the game when Tucknott sent in a superb far post cross from out on the right and was met with a perfectly timed diving header from MICKEY DEMETRIOU that flew past a stranded Garrard. Eight minutes later, though, Ks were back in the lead when Lodge took off at a furious pace down the left and was tripped in the Rocks box by Smith. Up stepped BOBBY TRAYNOR and coolly stroked the spotkick into the left hand corner past a full-stretch Ender.
Ks pressed forward for the safety of a third goal when Traynor found Wilson-Denis on the edge of the Rocks box.
He threaded a ball through to sub Karl Beckford but his acute-angled drive was smothered by Ender.
On 76 minutes Ks were in the hat for the draw on Monday morning when sub Christian Jolley came on and, with his first touch, went down the left, around the back of the Bognor defence, and picked out an unmarked DEAN LODGE deep in the home box and he blasted the ball first-time into the far corner.
Back came the Rocks and an alert Mo Harkin cleared a Gary Norgate header off his goalline.
With eight minutes to go, a Lodge through ball saw Ender race out his box to deny a lurking Traynor.
Ks sub Rob Sheridan took off down the right but his cross was picked out of the blue sky by Ender.
In the final minute, a backpass from Stuart Tuck was never going to reach Ender, allowing BOBBY TRAYNOR to intercept and to dribble the ball home into an empty net.
