History repeated itself for Ks on Saturday as, just like at Hendon last week, one lapse of concentration in the dying seconds of the game allowed Margate to sweep up all the points.

Neville Southall's Margate were full of new faces as they attempt to pull themselves out of drop zone territory.

With a strong seaward wind behind them in the first half the Blues made a perfect start opening the scoring on just eight minutes through new signing Akwasi Edusei.

But the Ks equalized just two minutes later through a superb strike from Matt Gray. After the break, with the assistance of the elements, it looked like the Ks might well come away from the Kent riviera with something tangible.

Gray found woodwork early on but the Ks threat worryingly diminished even though manager Alan Dowson threw on all three subs, including the mercurial Dean Lodge.

With both defences in the ascendancy the game seemed to be heading for stalemate, that is, until two minutes into additional time when Blues skipper Lloyd Blackman swept home a defensive error from close range.

The Ks return home to Kingsmeadow next Saturday October 10th with the visit of Cray Wanderers.

On six minutes Margate defender Aaron Lacey sent in the first of a series of high, long throws deep into the K's box which was only half-cleared to George Jeremy on the edge of the Ks box but he could only blast over.

Gate striker Joe Healy sent in a fiercely struck free-kick through a packed K's goalmouth that Luke Garrard did extremely well to push out at full-stretch for a corner.

On 8 minutes Wayne Wilson's corner from the left saw AKWASI EDUSEI, on his debut, dart in and slot the ball home on the near post before the K's backline could react. Before the Blues could settle on their lead the K's equalized two minutes later.

A Lewis Cook lob from the left was only half-cleared to MATT GRAY on the edge of the home box and his blistering rising drive sailed into the roof of the net past a full-stretch Lloyd Anderson.

Seven minutes later a Gray free-kick released striker Bobby Traynor down the right flank but Anderson was out smartly to block.

Another long throw from Lacey found Wilson on the edge of the Ks box but he lifted the ball over the bar.

Traynor set Cook free in space down the left and his well-struck drive wasn't far off the far post as Anderson narrowed the angle.

A Lacey throw found defender Ben Lewis deep in the Ks box and his looping header went just over. On 38 minutes a long high free-kick from Gray saw him trying to find Simon Huckle but Anderson was out quickly to intercept.

A John Fletcher through ball down the right for Traynor saw Anderson again out to stop his progress.

Then the returning K's midfielder Bashiru Alimi, signed from Carshalton Athletic, found Gray just inside the Gate box but his shot was blocked.

On 52 minutes a wind-assisted K's had their best chance to go ahead when Gray cut in from the right flank and let loose a fierce rising drive from a very acute angle and it skimmed the bar on its way out.

The Blues responded with a Wilson free-kick that fell to new boy centre back Liam Harwood but he struck the ball over.

Anderson did well to push away a low Cook drive, Huckle made the follow-up, but an offside was spotted.

A Jeremy cross from the left fell to sub Sam Cliff but he also struck over. Garrard had to be on his toes to punch the ball away from a lurking Edusei.

Ks striker Carl Wilson-Denis, just outside the Gate box, also skied the ball over. Wilson-Denis then set sub Lodge free down the middle of the park but Anderson was out quickly to clear. Blackman sent in a penetrating cross from the right, Edusei was blocked on the near post, and Wilson could only blast the follow-up only.

Lodge took a tumble in the Blues box and there was some half-hearted appeals for a penalty from the Ks faithful.

Then into the final ten minutes Ks skipper Garrard made an excellent save to keep his side in the game. A quick free-kick from the middle of the park from Wilson caught the Ks backline out. Edusei in space took off down the left flank, delayed his drive but fired point-blank straight into the arms of a perfectly-placed Garrard.

The Ks came back with a Gray free-kick, he picked out Huckle at full-stretch, but his header went wide. With five minutes to go another long throw from Lacey out on the right found Blackman in the Ks box but his header went wide of the far post.

It looked like the K's had survived the home side's late pressure but with 92 minutes gone a cross from out on the right flank from Lacey saw Max Hustwick get his header all wrong, Garrard made a fine instinctive block, but LLOYD BLACKMAN was on hand close in to see the ball home.
