Billy Smith has warned keeper Dave King that he is on borrowed time at Imperial Fields after Tooting & Mitcham missed the chance to move back into the Ryman Premier play-off pack on Monday night.

A 2-0 home defeat to Horsham, the Terrors' fourth setback on the bounce, was triggered by an awful howler from King in first-half stoppage time.

The giant keeper turned his back on the ball as a visiting striker challenged for a routine through pass, King fumbling the ball and Colin Hartburn's attempted hack clear cannoned back into the net.

Boss Smith revealed he has reached the end of his tether.

He said: “That was absolutely diabolical – Dave has basically swallowed it.

“He is 6ft 5 and he turns his back on the ball in case he gets hurt.

“It happens far too often and I am really going to have to have a long think about what I do regards the goalkeeper.

“Every time there is a ball on the floor he seems to be second best.

“The players were totally deflated.

“We had played well in the first half but then everyone comes in at half-time talking about him bottling it.

“The trouble with Dave is he never holds his hands up and admits he has made a mistake.

“He has to get braver than that or he will be out.”

The Terrors have another home clash this weekend when fellow play-off chasers Canvey Island are the visitors.

And Smith has demanded a return to form.

He added: “I had set a target of six points from these two games and that obviously isn't going to happen.

“But as a minimum we have to get three points from Canvey.

“It is simple – the amount of mistakes we are making at the moment is incredible and if we stop that we are good enough to win games.”

Tooting & Mitcham's next three matches: Nov 21 Canvey Island (h), 24 Dartford (a), 28 Bognor Regis (a)
