This Saturday sees the Beavers take on Lewes in the first round of the FA Trophy, with the winners earning £5,000 is prize money and a place in the second round draw, taking place on Monday.

For Hampton, this is almost uncharted territory as it is the first time in eight years they have still been involved in the FA Trophy in December.

In the previous round, Concord Rangers were defeated 3-2. Goals from Nathan Collier, Stuart Lake and Barrie Matthews gave Hampton a commanding 3-0 lead, before a late rally from the visitors brought them back in to the game, with only a fantastic save from Matt Lovett in injury time preventing a replay.

Form since then has been disappointing, with league defeats at Welling and Dorchester and, on Tuesday, a mixed side was knocked out of the Middlesex Senior Cup by Northwood.

Going in to this game, the side will be without Dave Tarpey, who is cup tied, and Francis Quarm, still recovering from his ankle injury, but is now back in light training.

Michael Lee Charles has returned from his loan spell at Walton & Hersham to bolster the squad.

Hampton made the trip to the Dripping Pan in the league at the start of November, and returned pointless after coming up against a keeper very much in form in Rikki Banks.

The young Lewes stopper foiled Hampton on several occasions and has recently been on trial at Wycombe Wanderers.

Lewes boss Steve Ibbotson has assembled a young squad that, although currently occupying one of the relegation spots, have become increasingly difficult to beat and, as Hampton found out last month, have the quality to take the chances that they create.

Most of the squad are taken from Lewes’s highly successful U18s set-up and experienced Blue Square Premier football last season.

Highly rated winger Dave Wheeler has recently signed his first contract with the club and set up the winner for Tim Rivers in November.

They have also added Steven Brinkhurst on loan from Brighton & Hove Albion earlier this month.
