Simon Parker admits Tooting & Mitcham only have themselves to blame after all but blowing their Ryman Premier play-off hopes for this season.

Saturday’s 3-2 home defeat to AFC Hornchurch leaves the Terrors in eighth spot, three points off the prized play-off places, but having played more games than their rivals.

And with just five games left to play, Parker reckons mistakes have costs his side dear.

He said: “It was going to be difficult for us to make the play-offs before Saturday so you have to look at it and say that is probably it.

“It is very disappointing as I am convinced that we are a good enough side to do it.

“But we make far too many silly errors and that has done for us.

“We just don’t seem to be able to hold onto a lead - especially at home.

“We cannot close games out and we have slipped up in too many games that we should have got something.”

Saturday was another fine example - after Matt York had sliced into his own net to give the visitors the lead, Tooting battled back through goals from Parker and Joe Vines.

But all that work came undone as the Terrors conceded twice in the final 20 minutes.

Parker added: “We have five games to go and realistically we have to win them all to have any chance whatsoever.

“I am just so disappointed as for pretty much the whole season we were in the top six places and now we have fallen away.

“Winning was a habit earlier in the season and that has all changed.

“All we can do is knuckle down, try and win our remaining games and see what happens.

“Who knows, may be know the pressure is off a bit we can relax and start to play football again.”
