Ks boss Alan Dowson reckons the only player he’d be worried about switching to play non-League football in Down Under is Bobby Traynor - and if he went he’d fly him straight back himself.
Corinthian Casuals’ Sam Robinson and Met Police striker Craig Carley have recently agreed deals - part funded by the Australian FA - to move to the other side of the world on bumper contracts - including flights, accommodation and wages.
The cream of the Ryman Leagues are on the Aussies’ wishlist to boost their own non-league game, but Dowson - who understands Fleet Town’s Paul Harkness has been approached - reckons any of his squad would be crazy to make the move now.
“With how the club is doing and how we are set up to do in the future, anyone here would be mad to go. I haven’t heard of anyone here being approached,” he said.
“For some people it is the opportunity of a lifetime, so we wouldn’t stand in anyone’s way. But it won’t be much different to playing non-League football over here.
“At the start of each summer we aim to get the best players in we can under our budget and that doesn’t change, but I’ll tell you now if Bobby goes I’ll fly him back each weekend myself.”
