Kingstonian striker Bobby Traynor could care less if he tops last season’s goal tally in Saturday’s Ryman League Premier Division play-off final - providing Ks win.

The 26-year-old struck a decisive second-half double - one a contender for goal of the season - to help sink Sutton United 4-2 at Gander Green Lane on Tuesday night.

It takes the former Brentford trainee’s tally to 35 for the current campaign, one less than he scored as boss Alan Dowson’s men lifted the Ryman League Division One South title last year.

But Traynor insists he isn’t bothered if he fails to find the net at the weekend as long as Ks secure promotion to the Blue Square South at the first attempt with a win at Boreham Wood.

“Those goals are definitely the most important I have scored this season,” he said.

“We came out buzzing in the second half. We had a bit of belief about us, put in a lot of work and it paid off.

“My first goal was a bit special for me - especially given the occasion - but I thought the whole team was different gear in the second half.

“It would be nice to beat last year’s tally, but a win is all we are after on Saturday.

“We can taste promotion now, we are one game away. Boreham Wood are a quality side, but if we play our game we are capable of beating anyone as we have proved.”

Ks have already beaten Saturday’s opponents twice this season - home and away - but Traynor believes that counts for nothing.

“That goes out of the window now. It is a one off game,” he added.

“If we turn up and play we are confident we will win, but it is a cup final and anything can happen.”

Dowson’s half-time team talk with his side trailing 2-1 proved a masterstoke as Adam Thompson and Traynor fired his side to a famous victory in front of more than 1,000 fans.

And Kingstonian’s goal hero admitted the team’s travelling support played their part.

“The fans were fantastic. They were singing their heads off all night,” he said.

“These are the games you want to play in when there is a really good atmosphere. Our fans have been great all season and you can’t knock them.”

Kingstonian’s last game: May 1 Boreham Wood (a).
