Having secured their Ryman Premier future, Carshalton Athletic have wasted little time in their search for a new manager by unveiling former assistant Mark Butler as their new boss.

Butler, who arrived at Colston Avenue late last season as deputy to caretaker boss Ian Hazel, is a former Ashford Town and Margate manager and brings a wealth of non-league experience to the Robins.

And Hazel, who will step down to his former academy role, thinks Carshalton have found the right man.

He said: “I am positive Mark will do very, very well.

“I have fully enjoyed working with him and he has proved to be a very good person.

“He knows a lot about the game and he was a great help to me over the last couple of months.

“I am glad the club has acted so quickly and I think they have found themselves a very safe pair of hands.”

Butler’s installation brings to an end a turbulent period that has seen Hayden Bird, Francis Vines and Hazel holding the reins over the last season.

And Director of Football Paul Dipre reckons Butler can lay the foundations for a successful future.

Dipre said: “Mark has worked alongside Hazel for the most successful period of the current season and he has made a positive impact.

“Mark knows that the club has very high expectations and he has convinced the board of directors that he can deliver.”
