Kingstonian defender Gary MacDonald may have scored two on Sunday, but with his side losing 3-2 to Carshalton Athletic, boss Alan Dowson was far from pleased.

MacDonald had twice equalised for Kingstonian after Laurent Hamici’s brace had given his side first a 1-0 advantage and then a 2-1 lead.

But former Kingsmeadow striker Paul Vines returned to haunt his old club as he hit the winner to give the Robins a 3-2 triumph.

Dowson signed ex-Tooting & Mitcham winger Jason Henry on Saturday after seeing striker Ali Chaaban switch to Blue Square South strugglers Staines Town.

But it is the other end that remains the priority for the manager with Sutton United loan stars Neil Jenkins and Romone McCrae returning to Gander Green Lane.

Kingstonian have the third worst defensive record in the Ryman Premier League and Dowson has warned that must change.

“It doesn’t take a genius to work out where out problem is,” he said.

“We score plenty of goals, but we are still conceding far too many. It remains our long term issue and we have to put it right.”

Kingstonian have lost their last two league games having appeared to be turning their season around.

And Dowson, who will not be in charge for Saturday's trip to Margate for health reason, is mindful another run of good form is needed to put things right.

“Four or five wins got us right up there but it is also amazing what four or five losses can do too,” he added.

“We were massively disappointed with Sunday, but we need to get some wins quickly if the people at the top aren’t going to runaway with it.”

Kingstonian go to Margate on Saturday to kick off a run of five straight away games.
