Mark Beard blasted his players' work ethic as Tooting and Mitcham's slump in form continued with another dismal league defeat on Saturday.

The Terrors were comfortably brushed aside 3-0 by high-flying Met Police to leave them languishing in 17th place in the Ryman Premier League with just one win in eight league games.

Beard has seen a number of players leave in recent weeks, including Jason Hughes, Jamie Byatt and Lee Newman, while the likes of Leon Constantine, Elton Tjoni and Charlie Dove have all made the switch to Imperial Fields.

They have yet to make their mark though and Beard has called on his squad to start performing as he knows they can when they host Hastings United this weekend.

"There are a lot of experienced players in there but they are not doing it," he said.

"They seem to be picking and choosing the games they want to play well in - it seemed a completely different side to the one that played so well against Wimbledon in the cup last week.

"It was just disappointing and we seem to be saying the same things week in week out.

"Everybody has bad games and makes mistakes but the least they can do it give 100 per cent.

"Since pre-season, when we worked with the same squad for six weeks, it hasn't been consistent and there are not many of those players left.

"We have had a fresh investment of guys through sponsorship money and with that has come new players but that stability has not been there.

"It is something I wanted to address from last season and it is just history repeating itself.

"The lads that have come in are quality players but it is not working for some reason."

Defeat left Tooting just four points off the relegation zone and Beard admitted it is the results of the bottom teams he looks out for first on a Saturday evening now.

"We are looking over our shoulders and looking if the teams below us have won rather than if the teams above us have lost," added Beard.

"We just need to start winning football matches.

"At the moment it is very hard and the players are low on confidence - it needs something or someone to kickstart our season."
