Carshalton Athletic have gone 11 games unbeaten after an inconsistent start to their 2010-11 campaign. The Robins have collected seven wins and four draws across their recent Ryman Premier League and various cup competition matches, with six of those games played away from Colston Avenue.

During this run Carshalton broke their home duck with a 2-1 victory over Bury Town and most recently progressed to the first round proper of the FA Carlsberg Trophy by emerging 1-0 winners in a tricky tie at lower league opposition Maldon and Tiptree.

“Consistency is the holy grail of success at this level of football and I’m pleased we have put a decent run together,” said Carshalton manager Paul Dipre.

However Dipre knows that it will be hard for The Robins to continue going unbeaten unless his side improves certain aspects of their game: “We are becoming hard to beat, which is important, but we are still starting many matches too slowly. We have to learn to play the game at a tempo we control, as we have had to haul ourselves back into matches from going a goal behind too often for my liking.”

Reaching the first round proper of one of the FA cup competitions was on Dipre’s agenda for this season and Carshalton have a home game against Bishop’s Stortford in December to contest after their victory in Maldon.

“We could’ve been on the end of a ‘giant killing’ with our three games in the Trophy this season so it’s pleasing for everyone involved with the club to get a taste of the first round proper,” added Dipre.

“A good cup run boosts club confidence and finances, but we’ll be taking the season one game at a time. It would’ve been good to do the same in The FA Cup like our neighbours Sutton United, but we wish them good luck in their endeavour and it gives us something to aim for in the future.”

The Robins host Wingate and Finchley at home on Saturday with a win seeing them leapfrog their opponents in the league table.
