Kingstonian's lack of finishing power was again evident on Saturday when they went down to Ryman League Division One South leaders Fleet Town.
A battling Ks side missed injured skipper Julian Sills and playmaker Martyn Lee, who broke down in the pre-match warm-up on Hampton's Beveree ground, where Ks had to switch the match due to Fleet' intransigence.
But they got off to a fine start by taking the lead in the fifth minute.
A deadly Mazin Ahmad cross from the right found striker Tony Reid and he headed the ball past a full-stretch Justin Gray.
Fleet stormed back, with Ben White testing keeper Luke Garrard and the menacing James Field having a shot blocked by Steve Potterill.
Eventually, in the 42nd minute, the visitors drew level when striker Nathan Smart cut in from the right and blasted the ball past Garrard.
The second-half started with a Fleet free-kick from Field that dropped dangerously in the Ks goalmouth and led to hopeful appeals for handball as Richard Taylor cleared. Substitute Ian Griffin and Field missed further chances for Fleet.
Ks then had an excellent period of pressure. A long high clearance saw Gray leave his box to head clear, but skipper Scott Corbett pounced to set Glenn Boosey free.
Boosey went past two defenders but scuffed his shot from close quarters.
Dean Lodge's sweetly struck drive struck the bar on its way over, while Reid brought a superb save from Gray.
Fleet also hit the woodwork through Field before scoring an 80th minute winner.
A long, high deflected cross from Field way out on the right found striker Will Salmon on the far post and he volleyed the ball home from close range.
Fleet almost made it three when sub Eddie Smith had a shot blocked by Garrard and Smith curled the rebound on to the Ks bar.
