It looked like Ks had done the business last Saturday holding on to a draw in Suffolk but Sudbury, the best team over the two games, had not read the script.
The visitors this time grabbed the early goal but the Ks revived, playing a far better passing game than Saturday and crowned it with two goals in two minutes at the beginning of the second half.
They were nicely set up to go on and win the game, especially when the Yellows were reduced to ten men.
But the spirited visitors in a typical see-saw cup tie had no intention of giving up, their explosive attacking play won them an equaliser.
With extra-time beckoning and three minutes into additional time, another set piece against a now 10-men Ks side saw Sudbury snatch a last gasp winner and the reward of a second qualifying round Trophy tie against Ramsgate.
For a shattered-looking Ks it was all about what might have been.
With the Sudbury coach snarled up in M25 traffic the kick-off was delayed for 20 minutes but that had absolutely no effect on the visitors.
In the first minute Luke Hammond, who had another excellent and influential game, sent in a free-kick from the left and an unmarked NEIL CALVER ran in powering a header past a helpless Luke Garrard.
Mazin Ahmad responded immediately with a cross from the right that Sudbury skipper David Head cleared out for a corner.
Three minutes later burly striker Andrew Claydon took off down the right but Garrard smothered the shot off the damp turf.
A rare slip by skipper Julian Sills deep in his box allowed Claydon in but he skied the ball over from close range. T hen Claydon turned provider finding winger Darren Bethell out on the left but he drove wide.
On 17 minutes Sills header back to Garrard was a little short, Claydon intervened, but he drove the ball out.
Ks, though, started to come back into the game, a Glenn Boosey cross from the left was fumbled by keeper Nathan Munson but there was no K's close to pounce.
Boosey was then carried off with a twisted ankle.
Sub Dean Lodge came on and immediately found Scott Corbett down the right, it was a good move which ended with a Sills header that was easy for Munson.
On 33 minutes Ahmad took off down the left, everyone expected a cross, but he tried a punt that was smothered by Munson. With 10 minutes to the break, Ks almost made the breakthrough.
A Lodge cross from the left fell to Stephen Broad who let loose a fierce rising drive that Munson did well to block. Corbett got to the follow-up but shot wide.
Martyn Lee then found Richard Taylor down the right and he sent in a low cross that was too hot to handle for Munson who conceded a corner. Lee's corner found Sills and his header was just wide of the far post.
In the final minute of the first half a Lee free-kick on the edge of the Yellows box saw him curl the ball around the defensive wall but only into the arms of Munson.
Ks kept up the pressure and were at last rewarded on 49 minutes when Lee found Ahmad out on the left flank.
His inch perfect cross saw DEAN LODGE dart in on the near post for him to head home past a stunned Munson.
A minute later, Ks were in the lead, a penetrating run by Lee into the away box saw the Sudbury backline in tatters, he delicately chipped Munson allowing DANNY MORRIS to head home from close range.
Then Tony Reid took off down the right, stopped, but drove his shot wide.
Sudbury though steadied, a Hammond free-kick on the edge of the Ks box cannoned out for a corner which Head saw over.
On 66 minutes it looked like Ks' night though when midfielder Calver upended Lodge, received a second yellow card and was sent off.
Reid again took off down the right flank but again blasted wide.
On 76 minutes a Lee through ball set Ahmad free down the left but his rising drive was comfortable for Munson.
Two minutes later DARREN BETHELL thumped in a chance from the edge of the Ks box that struck a defender's back, wrongfooted Garrard, and spun into the net for a fortunate goal.
The game was now wide open, sub James Rowe took off down the right but Garrard made a good block.
Then Ahmad went for glory blasting in a free-kick from the left when a cross might have been the better option.
With five minutes remaining a Hammond free-kick saw a Head header travel across the face of the Ks goal.
Two minutes later Rowe broke through the Ks backline and was upended by Taylor who received a red card.
In the 93rd minute a crushing blow for Ks when a Hammond corner from the left saw centre back DONALD GEORGE rise on the far post and head the ball powerfully past a full-stretch Garrard.
There was still time for Ks to push the game into an extra-time equaliser when a cross from sub Danny Lavender bounced around the away box finding an unmarked Steve Potterill close in but he unfortunately lashed the ball over the bar.
