Kingstonian, needing to bounce back from the previous week's disappointing FA Trophy exit against AFC Sudbury, had to be content with a Ryman Division One South draw on Saturday at Tooting & Mitcham, who finished with only nine men.
Tooting, who are having a tough time in their league campaign, with only two wins and four goals, gave Ks the runaround in the first-half.
But the home side squandered several excellent chances, whereas Ks scored with a neat counter-attack. Just before the break Tooting's pressure paid off when they drew level from the spot.
Tooting's Jamie Findlay was sent off just after the hour, and their winger Vernon Francis also saw red in additional time.
It was against the run of play when Ks took the lead in the 17th minute.
Scott Corbett found an unmarked Tony Reid, who took off on a solo run, arounded keeper Dave King King and rolled the ball into and empty net.
Six minutes later the Ks could have made it two when Danny Morris had an on-target drive blocked.
Francis hit the post for Tooting, and a Francis corner then saw Broomhead get in a powerful header which Garrard acrobatically tipped over.
Former Ks striker Paul Vines also went close close and other chances were missed by Gibb and Findlay.
Eventually, with five minutes to go to the break, Tommy Moorhouse upend Gibb just inside the Ks box and Matt York confidently struck home the penalty.
Chances were few and far between in a disappointingly dull second-half in which Tony Reid twice headed off target.
At the other end Garrard did well to hold a Daniel Lawson cross under pressure and then saved from Broomhead.
But, with 66 minutes gone, Findlay was booked for a second time for upending the impressive Dean Lodge and was off. Ks tried to take advantage, with Stephen Broad and Martyn Lee both testing King.
Ks manager Stuart McIntyre tried a late double substitution by throwing on Mazin Ahmad and giving a debut to attacker Assi N'Cho.
Three minutes into additional time Francis brought down the lively Ahmad to receive his second yellow, and saw red.
