Molesey Community Church Football Club are celebrating after clinching the Southern Area Christian League Division One title for the first time in their 22-year history.
Goals from 18-year-old player/manager Andy Simms and Alex Blythe, notching his 20th of the season, were enough to see off title holders Walton Baptist Church 2-0 and secure the title in only their second season together.
It was not all one-way traffic with Walton’s Sam Abramian and Tom Carr forcing good saves out of Molesey stopper Nick Gould – who went on to be name man of the match.
Simms said, “I’m delighted that such a young side has won the league already, I was expecting this team to take a little longer to gel.
"Every player deserves credit for their attitude as well as great play.”
Walton can make amends when they play Churches of Spelthorne Utd in the SACFL Cup final at Molesey FC on May 1 (7.15pm kick off).
