Corpus Christi Catholic Primary School got some international-class coaching last week as they prepare to play at Wembley this Sunday.
Former England international Gareth Southgate dropped in on the New Malden School to lend his advice to their U11s team ahead of their match with Chetwynd Junior School in the final of the npower Football League Kids Cup.
They will play before the League One play-off final between Yeovil Town and Brentford – the team Corpus Christi are representing in the Kids Cup having won the right ahead of others in the area – and Southgate was impressed with what he saw.
“It was very nice and very good training with the kids,” he said.
“They have got some talented players and they have a few boys that train with the Chelsea Academy, so it was good to see their calibre.
“I saw the team they are playing against as well and they have got some good players too so it should be a fantastic game.”
Southgate was at the school an ambassador for the npower Kids Cup, an U11s schools tournament that more than 1,700 schools entered this year.
