Mitcham's wannabe football star Mory Kone is hoping to emulate his name sake’s goal scoring ability as he attempts to win a professional football contract.
Striker Mory, 19, an Ivorian by birth, has entered Samsung’s Win A Pro Contract competition in the hope of signing for either Swindon Town, Leyton Orient or Wycombe Wanderers.
Mory, who plays for Croydon College, said: “Arouna Kone is a great role model for our country. He has won the FA Cup with Wigan and now plays for a top club with Everton.
“Playing in the Ivory Coast is not as organised as it is here but there is a lot of talent there and many people dream of making it.
“My family came from the Ivory Coast to London to be together and have a better life and the next step for me is to win a professional football contract and represent my country, just like Arouna.”
For the first time since Win A Pro Contract was launched in 2010, there are three professional contracts on offer as Wycombe Wanderers join Samsung’s existing partnerships with Swindon Town and Leyton Orient.
Hopefuls will be tested at regional skills trials and 11-a-side matches as they bid to kick-start their dreams of becoming a professional footballer.
