Sutton Common Rovers kicked off their league campaign with a disappointing 3-1 defeat at home to one of the pre-season title favourites Camberley Town, their third straight opening day defeat, writes Gary Brigden.
Darren Salmon made several changes from the side that had beaten Canterbury City in the FA Cup, including giving a debut to left-back Matt Tanton.
SCR started brightly, with Andrew White being denied by Camberley keeper Kallum Lunn and Marlon Rodney firing an effort over the bar.
Aside from one excellent save by SCR skipper Craig Bradshaw, from an Adam Liddle drive, it was a relatively comfortable half for SCR, with no indication of what was to come.
Camberley took the lead five minutes into the second half, when neat interplay on the edge of the SCR area, between Adam Liddle and Josh Wood saw Wood beat Bradshaw with a low shot to put the visitors ahead.
SCR tried to respond but all to often passes went astray or were not collected by the receiver, and Camberley struck again on 60 minutes.
A corner into the box saw pushing and shoving, as you see at every corner, with White being pulled up for hauling down Liddall, Marcus Cousins despatched the spot kick high to Bradshaw's right for 2-0.
Salmon introduced Matt Auletta and Jay Jones in a bid to get back into the game, but Camberley were the dominant side, and SCR offering little.
The visitors made it 3-0 with just over five minutes remaining when a mistake at the back allowed Wood the simple task of rolling into an empty net.
For the SCR faithful there was a consolation goal, with substitute Liam Holden firing home from distance in stoppage time.
Rovers travel to Knaphill on Tuesday evening (kick-off 7.45pm) before hosting Eastbourne Town in the Preliminary Round of the FA Cup at Sutton United FC on Saturday (kick-off 3pm).
