Fulham Compton OB 1 BA Women 2

BAWFC came from behind to beat second-placed Fulham Compton OB in the league fixture this Sunday.

But the visitors were unlucky to be trailing within the first 20 minutes after a handball appeal in the Fulham penalty box was waved away by the referee moments earlier.

And their striker Olive Nwachukwuguru, fresh back from international duty in Nigeria, was adjudged to offside when through on goal on two occasions.

BA fought back in the first half and Marie Weston took advantage of a bad clearance by the Fulham keeper and levelled it before half-time.

They ended the first half the stronger team but could not convert any more chances, including a goal-line scramble from a corner in injury time in the first half.

Starting the second half strongly, it wasn't long before player of the match Weston got her second after brilliant play from winger Char Bungaroo.

The remainder of the second had much the story of the first, with questionable offsides being called that did not allow BA to sit back with a third.

Fulham Compton pressed hard until the final whistle to keep their title hopes alive but could not find a way through the BA defence.

BAWFC line-up: Svitlana Klachko, Simone Rapa, Preeti Johal (c), Nicole Cho-Yee, Mandip Grewal, Char Bungaroo, Louise Dutton, Nav Johal, Elsa Berros, Olive Nwachukwuguru, Marie Weston. Subs not used: Rachael Dutton.BA's reserves held on until the 80th minute before Hendon Reserves got the only game of the day in the Sue Sharples Memorial Thorphy.

After a fine display in defence and a great performance by stand-in keeper Jacinta Graves, the team were left disappointed to lose.

This Sunday, the first team take a break, while the reserve team are away to Enfield thirds.
