Elm Grove Colts Football Club have carried out a boot and kit drop for underprivileged children in Burkina Faso.
The club received a host of donations, with the goods being taken out to the West African country by club representatives this month. Burkina Faso is one of the most undeveloped countries in the world. They are a ‘football mad’ nation, neighboured by more well known footballing countries such as the Ivory Coast & Ghana.
Craig will be travelling to Burkina Faso in February, and will be visiting various townships and villages across the country. Bearing in mind their love and passion for football, Elm Grove Colts Football Club decided to carry out a ‘boot & Kit drop’ for the kids and young adults of Burkina Faso.
The Elm Grove Colts FC newsletter ‘special edition’ highlighted the poverty and plight in Burkina Faso, and their lack of footballing clothing and accessories in general. The newsletter went out to over 200 families of the football club, within the Elmbridge area, during the Xmas period. This proved to be highly successful, and within days, the donations started to flood in.
It was soon apparent that the people of the football club, and the people of Elmbridge in general, were extremely sympathetic towards the cause, and within the space of 3 weeks, over 800 items had been donated. From ‘hardly worn’ football boots to goal-keepers gloves, all sorts of quality football clothing was collected, including two new football kits donated by the club.
When the crate of football clothing turns up in the West African country next month, many of the young, keen footballers of Burkina Faso will have their dreams realised. To own a football shirt with their favourite players written on the backs of them, including Didier Drogba and Michael Essien, they really will be extremely appreciative of the kind people of Elm Grove Colts FC & many residents of Elmbridge in general.
Elm Grove Colts FC are extremely proud to be a caring, welcoming, generous and friendly football club in the Elmbridge area. Please visit our website for more information www.elmgrovecoltsfc.org
