Banstead Athletic manager Dave Tidy believes any potential link-up with financially stricken Rangers is a long way away.
The As have made the news in Scotland recently after it was reported the Scottish champions were close to agreeing a tie-up with the club to act as their base in the south of England.
But Rangers, whose co-owner Aiden Earley also has links to Banstead, have since gone into administration, placing any potential project on hold.
“All I know is there are going to be developments at the club and I do not know if that will be a link with Rangers,” said Tidy, referring to the go ahead the club has been given to develop five five-a-side artificial pitches.
“At the moment it is a Banstead Athletic venture and then after that, somewhere down the line, there are things people have speculated about.
“Banstead at the moment is just Banstead, there is nothing there and it is a very small club.
“Once the developments happen then who knows?
“Talks have taken place with Rangers but that is all I am aware has gone on.
“With Rangers going into administration being a massive thing up in Scotland and Aiden Earley being part of our club, people have put two and two together and came up with five.
“Any sort of link up would be way down the line and let’s just get the club developed first.”
Banstead reached the quarter-finals of the Combined Counties League Cup with a 4-3 win over Worcester Park on Tuesday, having been 3-1 down with 20 minutes to play.
That followed Saturday’s 4-3 defeat to Camberley Town in the Combined Counties Premier League.
They sit fourth bottom and face fellow strugglers Colliers Wood United this Saturday, with Tidy insisting their results have not reflected performances.
“Ironically, we didn’t play well on Tuesday but there are games we have played since Christmas where we have played well and got nothing,” he said.
“We haven’t had the results so we are still fourth bottom but we have played very well.
“But we need to get results and hopefully we can take the cup result into the match with Colliers Wood.”
