Croydon Harrier Samuel Osewa powered home to win the showpiece Surrey County 60m indoor title last weekend at Sutton Arena.

The 22 year-old, who no doubt noted club colleague James Dasaolu’s national success seven days previously, triumphed in the final in a lifetime best of 6.81secs, putting him 22nd in the UK rankings.

The club’s other success from the championships came courtesy of Reegan Boyce who won the U15 boy’s long jump.

His second round leap of 5.16m was just enough to earn him gold by 4cm from his nearest challenger.

Croydon notched a further seven silver and seven bronze medals throughout the two days of competition.

Linda Oxlade brought home two silvers in the W60 long and triple jump.

Elsewhere in cross country action more than 20 Harriers tackled the rearranged South of England championships at Parliament Hill.

In the quagmire like conditions, Peter Chambers led the club’s challenge and finished in 12th position over the five-mile course in the U20 men’s race.

It was the highest finish in this race by a Croydon runner in eight years. He was ably supported by Dom Nolan (31st) and Ben Savill (49th).

Stevie Lawrence was 24th in the U17 women’s race, the best finish by a Harrier girl in 13 years. She went onto win bronze in the Surrey indoor pole vault competition 24 hours later.

The U15 boy’s quartet of Kieron Connor (66th), Rob Spalding (76th), Omar Harhara (85th) and Charlie Brackenborough (120th) finished in 11th in the team race, the best team finish in more than a decade.

The senior men were 30th in the team competition over the gruelling nine-mile course. Neil Aikman led the team home and was ably supported by Martin Rowe, Robert Rye, Norman Hemming and Dave Warren.
