James Dasaolu has high hopes of flying under the radar and medaling at this weekend's European Indoor Championships in Gothenburg.
The 25-year-old Croydon Harrier is ranked sixth in the 60m going into the competition but has been setting personal bests throughout the winter and could overhaul the favourites Michael Tumi of Italy, Jimmy Vicaut of France and fellow Brit Dwain Chambers.
"Most of the attention is on the French and the Italian guys and probably Dwain as he is an indoors specialist," said Dasaolu, who reached the 100m semi-finals at last year's Olympics and won the British indoor trials earlier this month.
"But I am just going and doing my own thing and I am confident in my own ability.
"It is the first time I have competed indoors since 2009 so it's all quite new to me.
"We really want to work on the beginning part of my race with the start and the transition for the 100m and indoors provides a great opportunity for me to do that.
"Things are going really well and I have run a PB in every race so of course I would like to get a medal. Every British sprinter should always be up there in the medals."
Dasaolu ran a personal best 10.09 outdoors in 2009 but then suffered two years of injuries that threatened to ruin his career.
But since switching to coach Steve Fudge 12 months ago he has been injury free and it is outdoors where he hopes to make his real breakthrough this summer.
"I am more excited about the summer because athletics is a summer sport," he added.
"60m is great but 100m is what my goals and targets are in and I am moee excited about competing outdoors and getting a new PB as I haven't had one since 2009.
"I want to go to the World Championships too as my goal is to represent my country whenever I can."
